I'm excited to announce that my debut novel - Naupaka Blooming - is soon to be published on Amazon! Being a published writer has been a life long dream for me. In grade school I used to write little stories for my friends. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I always answered "a writer!" I enjoyed drawing with pencil too and I was pretty good at it by college so my first major was art. But then I started thinking about making a living and eventually I decided to be practical and go the same way my dad did with accounting. I've made a good living as an accountant over the years. There are always jobs for accountants, even in the worst economies (and I've survived a couple downturns successfully!) I even finally got my CPA license after putting it off for years. I passed all 4 of the CPA exams on the first try within 6 months. I don't know why I was so afraid of taking the exams for so long! I became a controller and managed accounting departments which was a goal of mine from the beginning. I worked at a yacht club, a boy's private school and a construction company. So, I started thinking recently, since I accomplished what I wanted with my accounting career I think it's time to do what I really wanted to do all along - write!
I faced a turning point in life after a divorce in 2006. Broken and defeated I ran away as far away as I could and miraculously found a way to renew myself in Hawaii. I really blossomed spiritually and physically in the warm, humid island setting. I fell in love with the Hawaiian islands, the people, and the history. I made new friends, got out hiking and kayaking and learned to rock climb. I read the novel Hawaii by James Michener and then I started writing Naupaka Blooming a few years later. My original idea for Naupaka Blooming has morphed into something entirely different and much better, if you ask me. Here's a little description of my baby, Naupaka Blooming:
In ancient Hawaii, a princess and a commoner fall in love. But powerful forces are against them and they are not allowed to be together. They both die tragically. In modern Hawaii, true love gets a second chance. But the same powerful forces are still out to keep them apart.
I truly feel I was inspired to write this story and I'm thankful it's finally all out of my head, even if it did take a long, long time to get to here. I met my husband, got married, and had a baby girl as I was trying to write this story. I also moved from Hawaii to Portland and then back to Hawaii and then back to Portland. (I know, I know! I can't seem to make up my mind!) Life has kept me on my toes. But my imagination has only grown over the last few years and new exciting story ideas continue to come to me. I'm excited to start on my next novel... I promise it won't take another 6 years to write the next one!
After much debate about whether to try for a publishing deal or go the self publishing route I've decided to self publish. It seems to be the way to go for people like me who like to have a lot of control. I never even tried to find a publisher so who knows, maybe I would have been embraced by a publisher. But some of my favorite writers today either started out self publishing or continue to self publish.
I just want to get my novel out there for people to read as fast as possible. So... please keep an eye out on Amazon in March for my debut novel Naupaka Blooming...

I'm a romantic at heart with an overactive creative mind and an artistic soul. I've always been an avid reader - I read as much as I can as often as I can! Writing has been a life long dream that I haven't allowed myself to pursue until just recently. In April I finally published my first novel - Naupaka Blooming, a Hawaiian Reincarnation Romance. And now I'm working on the first book in a new fantasy thriller series called Summer's Shadow.
