There's nothing quite like getting lost in a good book.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, or who had ever been alive.”
― James Baldwin
“Isn't it odd how much fatter a book gets when you've read it several times?" Mo had said..."As if something were left between the pages every time you read it. Feelings, thoughts, sounds, smells...and then, when you look at the book again many years later, you find yourself there, too, a slightly younger self, slightly different, as if the book had preserved you like a pressed flower...both strange and familiar.”
― Cornelia Funke, Inkspell
“I love books, by the way, way more than movies. Movies tell you what to think. A good book lets you choose a few thoughts for yourself. Movies show you the pink house. A good book tells you there's a pink house and lets you paint some of the finishing touches, maybe choose the roof style, park your own car out front. My imagination has always topped anything a movie could come up with. Case in point, those darned Harry Potter movies. That was so not what that part-Veela-chick, Fleur Delacour, looked like.”
― Karen Marie Moning, Darkfever
“A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning light, at noon and by moonlight.”
― Robertson Davies

I've always loved the written word. Each book I've read (and I've read a lot!) has changed me in some small or large way. Writing is a way to make a mark in the world, be heard, take a stand. Ever since grade school I've heard the call to become a writer. I shrugged it off for a long time but it got to the point where I could no longer deny it. And I'm so glad I finally listened and started writing! I feel a release of pressure, a lightening of my load when I write.
Here are 15 of my favorite quotes from famous writers about writing (in no particular order).
I agree with every one of them!
It's as fun for me to look at pictures of the great writers as it is to read their famous quotes! They are each so different and fascinating in their own way. You can really see their personalities in the way they pose for the camera, whether they choose to smile or not, the way they tilt their head or the way their eyes twinkle.
Anyone can be a writer! And the world needs diversity now more than ever. So if you feel the pull to write, if you have a story to tell then get to it! Don't let anything hold you back.

I'm a romantic at heart with an overactive creative mind and an artistic soul. I've always been an avid reader - I read as much as I can as often as I can! Writing has been a life long dream that I haven't allowed myself to pursue until just recently. In April I finally published my first novel - Naupaka Blooming, a Hawaiian Reincarnation Romance. And now I'm working on the first book in a new fantasy thriller series called Summer's Shadow.
